Nissan Qashqai Car Tax UK
2026/27 VED Rates
The Qashqai is one of the UK's best-selling cars and slots cleanly into the mainstream SUV VED window. Most trims sit in Band G (£270 first year) or Band H (£680 first year) and stay under the £40,000 list-price line, so the standard £200/year rate kicks in from year 2 with no supplement. The 1.5 e-Power series hybrid is the most VED-efficient engine choice.

CO2 figures vary by exact spec (transmission, wheel size, 2WD vs 4WD). Check the WLTP-combined CO2 figure on the Nissan UK configurator for your build. Even the top Tekna+ trim with options typically stays under £40,000 - the Qashqai is one of the few popular SUVs that mostly escapes the expensive-car supplement.
Why the Qashqai is VED-friendly for an SUV
Most large SUVs (Range Rover Evoque, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, Mercedes GLC) cross the £40,000 expensive-car supplement threshold by default, picking up an extra £2,200 of VED over the 5-year supplement window. The Qashqai sits in the mid-size SUV tier where even the top spec line typically lands around £35-£38,000 - just under the threshold.
5-year VED for a 1.3 mHEV 140: £270 + (4 x £200) = £1,070. For the same money in a £42,000 premium SUV that crosses the £40k line, you would pay £680 + (4 x £640) = £3,240. The supplement adds £2,000+ of lifetime tax to vehicles that look superficially similar on the spec sheet.
